Group Classes
SFA offers structured fencing classes for kids, youth, and adults. Our training is divided into three progressive levels—from Introduction and Beginner to Competitive Fencer—designed to support each athlete’s individual journey.
Each level of the program focuses on developing key areas, including:

Youth Classes
Our Youth Fencing Program is designed to provide a strong foundation in the sport through a comprehensive and engaging training schedule. The program includes:
- Two group classes per week, each lasting one hour
- One private lesson per month
Each group session begins with a dynamic warm-up, incorporating age-appropriate games to develop coordination, agility, and engagement. The main portion of the class focuses on building core fencing skills through:
- Technical drills
- Footwork and handwork development
- Target training
- Partner exercises
- Electric fencing bouts using full equipment
This balanced approach helps students improve both physically and strategically in a supportive, energetic environment, laying the groundwork for long-term success in the sport.
To accelerate progress and reinforce learning, additional private lessons are highly recommended.
Intermediate Classes (Y10 or Y10 National Points and Y12)
The Intermediate Gold and Silver Programs consist of:
Gold
- Three group classes per week, each lasting one and a half hours
- One private lesson per month
- Unlimited access to Open Bouting sessions
Silver
- Two group classes per week, each lasting one and a half hours
- One private lesson per month
- Unlimited access to Open Bouting sessions
Class Structure:
Each session begins with a dynamic warm-up, often incorporating age-appropriate games to engage students and build agility. Following the warm-up, fencers work on a variety of skill-building elements, including:
- Technical drills
- Footwork and handwork coordination
- Target practice
- Partner exercises
- Electric fencing bouts
This program is designed to help fencers build a strong technical foundation while developing the physical conditioning and tactical understanding needed to advance in the sport.
Students enrolled in this program are also encouraged to take additional private lessons to support their individual development.
Advanced Classes (Y14 or Y14 National Points and above)
The Advanced Gold, Silver and Bronze Programs consist of:
Gold
- Four group classes per week, each lasting two hours
- Two private lessons per month
- Unlimited access to Open Bouting sessions
Silver
- Three group classes per week, each lasting two hours
- One private lesson per month
- Unlimited access to Open Bouting sessions
Bronze
- Two group classes per week, each lasting two hours
- One private lesson per month
- Unlimited access to Open Bouting sessions
The Advanced Program is designed for fencers who compete regularly at the regional, national, or international level. Typically, enrollment is open to students who have earned USA Fencing National Points in Y14 and above.
Training in the Advanced Program focuses on:
- Advanced foot and handwork
- Mastering advanced fencing techniques and skills
- Enhancing endurance, speed, agility, and overall strength
- Developing high-level strategies and bout-specific tactics
Students enrolled in this program are also encouraged to take additional private lessons to support their individual development.
